 BOX CLEVER?

Now we know all things square, white and minimal have cornered the market in mobiles and mp3 players. But two-wheeled transport too?

No, the apple corps aren’t bringing the iscooter to market just yet. But US manufacturer Boxx is launching something similar and it’s possibly the most bizarre bike we’ve ever seen at KBB.

Their radical new electric commuter scooter is designed to put a new angle on short city rides, weighing just 120 lbs with storage space inside to stow your shopping…or whatever other designer gizmos you simply can’t leave home without.

Parking’s no problem either, thanks to the Boxx’s one meter square frame, which coupled with its light 120Ibs weight, make it easy to carry inside with you. Which you’ll need to do fairly often to plug the thing into a standard socket and charge, as you’ll only get 20 miles before you need to top up the juice when driving in standard mode (or 40 in eco setting).

So how does it perform on the road? Top speed is limited to 30 m.p.h. to keep the vehicle in the scooter class, whilst lovers of Tron will appreciate  the onboard laser projector (really!) which zaps two 1.5-inch-wide beams on either side of the vehicle as a safety lane for other less cool vehicles to observe.

Now we’re not too sure what the signal is like on this two-wheeled designer telephone. What we’re interested in are the signals it gives out.

Would you be seen astride a Boxx on your local High St? Or is this example of thinking outside the box taking design for design’s sake too far and strictly for squares? Let us know your angle on it.
